When he publicly reprimanded and ordered the suspension of a senior doctor at Goa Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Health Minister Vishwajit Rane became embroiled in controversy. On June 7, 2025, during a surprise visit to the hospital, this incident occurred. A complaint that an elderly patient had not received an injection was said to have been made to the minister. Reacting to this, he lost his temper and lashed out at Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar in front of others, instructing hospital staff to immediately suspend him. The entire incident was recorded on camera, and it quickly went viral on social media. The minister's actions were strongly criticized by many, including healthcare professionals and medical associations. They argued that it was unfair and disrespectful to treat a senior doctor in this way, especially without properly investigating the situation. Minister Rane later acknowledged that his tone and choice of words could have been better. He admitted that he should have handled the situation more calmly, but he explained that he was emotional and acted out of concern for the patient. He expressed regret to Dr. Kuttikar and his family, expressing regret over the circumstances of the incident. As the situation escalated, Goa’s Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, intervened. He released Dr. from his suspension and confirmed Kuttikar would stay where he was. The chief minister also expressed gratitude to the medical community for their dedication and hard work.

Dr. was supported by a number of medical organizations following this. Kuttikar. They emphasized the importance of treating doctors with dignity and respect. In addition, they demanded clear rules to prevent VIPs and the media from interfering with hospital operations, particularly during medical procedures or emergencies.

The incident also drew criticism from the opposition. The Congress party condemned Minister Rane’s actions, calling them "high-handed and unbecoming of a public representative." Party leaders demanded a formal inquiry into the matter and urged the government to ensure that healthcare professionals are not subjected to political pressure or public humiliation.
