The CBI has arrested Jawahar Shah, a Gujarati businessman, and Salim Patel, a Mumbai resident, for operating a fictitious NEET score-fixing organization. They cheated families out of ₹87.5 lakh by falsely claiming they could raise NEET UG 2025 scores using their “contacts” inside the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The fraud targeted 17 students, the majority of whom were from Gujarat and Maharashtra. These students and their families paid between 5 lakh and 10 lakh for the opportunity, which promised guaranteed MBBS admission. Many were convinced by screenshots of admit cards, OMR sheets, and fake messages that looked official.
CBI officers found over 1,600 pages of WhatsApp chats, bank transfers, and student documents during their investigation. While Shah handled the financial side, Patel coordinated directly with the students, collecting their admit card photos and providing them with false updates.
Importantly, the CBI clarified that NTA’s systems were never hacked, and no staff from NTA were involved. To gain trust, the accused used psychological manipulation and forged documents. A member of the CBI stated, “These students may have been tricked or knowingly participated. We are independently verifying each case." The names of the students have not been made public, but the CBI has contacted numerous families and is gathering evidence. Some families have filed local FIRs, while others remain under investigation.
Student Impact Statement (based on real reports)
"We thought we couldn't do anything. The father of a 17-year-old from Gujarat, who paid 7 lakh in the hope that his child's future would be "secured," stated, "Everyone said this exam decides your entire future." " Now we have lost the money. Worse yet, we lost faith. He added, "My daughter weeps every day because she believes she has failed us." Although some students may have participated knowingly, many were deceived by the appearance of influence. Several families are now emotionally devastated and financially drained, with no assurance of refunds or legal protection
