Air India Plane Crashes into Ahmedabad Medical Hostel, 4 Students Among the Dead

242 people were killed when an Air India plane crashed near Ahmedabad. A terrible accident happened near Ahmedabad when an Air India plane crashed just after takeoff. 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, were on board flight AI171, which was headed to London Gatwick. The crash took place around 6:45 AM on June 12, 2025, near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Gujarat, India.
The plane emitted an emergency signal shortly after takeoff, and then it began to fall rapidly. It crashed in the Meghani Nagar area, close to a doctor's hostel. There was a large fire and a lot of black smoke following the crash. When the plane hit the ground, witnesses said they heard a deafening noise. Rescue teams, fire trucks, and police reached the area quickly. Sadly, around 30 people have died, and it is feared that more are still trapped beneath the rubble. Many injured people have been taken to hospitals for treatment. The rescue work is still going on.
There were 169 Indian, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian passengers on the plane. Some reports also say that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani may have been on the flight, but that has not been confirmed.
India's leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, expressed their sadness over the incident and promised to help the victims and their families. In addition, the British government and officials in India are working together to assist British citizens who were on the flight.
This is the first time a Boeing 787 Dreamliner has crashed with deaths since it started flying in 2011. Boeing engineers and Indian officials are currently attempting to determine the cause of the crash. Flights at Ahmedabad Airport were stopped for a short time after the crash, and special trains were arranged to help passengers.
